ECI: Alexis,
you seem to be having a breakout season and are steadily climbing the ranks as
one of ECI’s best runners. What do
you attribute to your recent success and what are your goals for this season and
the future?
AH: "I attribute my recent success to great coaching from the time I started running till now and our dedicated training at YHS. My goals for this season are to make it to the State meet as a freshman and my goal time is to get a 19:10. My goal for my senior year is to place in the State meet. "
ECI: How
did you get started in running cross country?
AH: "When I was in 5th grade I went to a local fun run with my soccer team and I loved it. I have been running ever since."
ECI: Since
this will be your first year competing in the state cross country series, what
are your thoughts on the added pressure and competition?
AH: "The level of competition has increased a lot but I try not to let it get to me. A race is a race I just try to do my best every time I run. I know that I have to step it up more every time."
ECI: How
much different is high school cross country than middle school?
AH: "The competition is a lot
tougher, and the race is a lot further but overall the experience is still
great. I moved here from Michigan a few months ago and the team is already like
one big family, all of us just keep on improving every race."
ECI: How
do you like to prepare yourself for big races?
AH: "One of the major ways that
I prepare myself for big races is hydrating; I always have a water bottle in my
hand."
ECI: Who
is your idol?
AH: "I really don’t have any idols but I went to MSU cross country camp this summer and met some Big Ten runners and former Olympians, they inspired me to pursue running."
ECI: What
is your favorite music to listen to before a race?
AH: "None"
ECI: What
is your favorite pre-race meal?
AH: "My favorite pre-race meal is pasta. Our team has a great time at Pasta dinners the night before meets."
